Leonardo di Miceli is born around 1906 in Louisiana, the son of Joseph di Miceli and Anna Streva.
In the 1910 federal census of the city of Los Angeles, Precinct 87, taken 18 April, Marie Streva, 58 (b. 1852), heads a household at 1358 Channing St. with her sons Tony, 27 (b. 1883), Samuel, 24 (b. 1886), and Ross, 22 (b. 1888). Also in this household are Marie’s daughter, Anna, 30, her husband Joseph Dimiceli, 32 (b. 1878), their children Cosimo, 6 (b. 1904), Leonardo, 4 (b. 1906), and Andrew, 2 (b. 1908). Anna has had three children, all living. Also in the household are Marie’s grandchildren, Lucy Dicarlo, 13 (b. 1897), and Vincent Dicarlo, 7 (b. 1903). Marie is a widow of Italian birth. She has had six children, five of them living. Her children and son in law in the household were all born in Italy. The Di Miceli children, and Vincent Di Carlo, were born in Louisiana. Lucy Di Carlo was born in Italy. Marie and the four children of hers listed in this household all immigrated in 1897. Her son in law came in 1889. Mary’s sons and son in law are naturalized citizens. Tony is the proprietor of a grocery store. Samuel is a laborer in a railway yard. Ross is a laundryman in a laundry. Joseph Di Miceli is a fruit merchant who owns his own market.[1]
In the 1920 federal census of Los Angeles, taken on 8 January, Joseph D. Miceli, age 41 (b. 1879), and his wife, Anna, 40 (b. 1880), head a household at 1446 48th St. They both became naturalized citizens in 1904. Joseph immigrated in 1890 and Anna in 1897. Their children at home are Cosimo, 16 (b. 1904), Leonard, 14 (b. 1906), Andrew, 12 (b. 1908), and Rosa, 10. (b. 1910) The children were all born in Louisiana. Joseph is a core maker for an iron foundry.[2]
Based on a claim made in their advertisement for Streva & Di Miceli, Leonard is a resident of San Pedro beginning in 1934. His uncle Antonio Streva is a long-time resident and civic leader of the Italian community in San Pedro.[3]
Joseph dies in 1936.
Leonard goes into the insurance business with his uncle Tony in San Pedro.
